Roy Cooper, the former governor of North Carolina, has secured the state's Senate election. He overcame Republican Michael Whatley, changing the seat to Democrats. This represents Cooper's re-entry to the Senate after a decade, making him the first Democratic senator from North Carolina in over a decade. The election results were verified by the Associated Press. Cooper's victory is significant for the Democratic Party, as it assists in counteracting recent losses in the state.
